SIDEKICK QUESTS THE RPG IS A SIMPLE “LITE STYLE” ROLE PLAYING GAME DESIGNED TO INTRODUCE CHILDREN TO ROLE PLAYING. Sidekick Quests the RPG is meant to introduce younger players to the world of RPGs in hopes that both children and adults could play together and still have a fun and unique experience. Many of the rules in Sidekick Quests are simplified specifically for ease of play with younger players.
PLAYERS PLAY THE GAME BY TAKING ON ROLES OF SIDEKICKS TO ADVENTURERS. In the Kingdom of Chivel in the Land of Adventur great castles are protected by knights in shining armor. These knights are training young boys and girls as Squires that help them perform their chivalrous acts. There are also many enchanted forests in Chivel that are filled with all manner of fairies. Protecting these wondrous glades is the responsibility of rangers. Helping the rangers in their tasks are Scouts, boys and girls that travel the woods and make friends with fairy kind. In every village in the kingdom there stands a mysterious tower that is home to at least one powerful Wizard. Wizards teach their arcane arts and magical miracles to boys and girls that act as their Apprentices. Throughout Chivel common folk and royalty alike are thrilled by the antics of entertainers of all kinds. Young boys and girls trying to become entertainers in Chivel are known as Amateurs. Therefore the beginning Roles available for players are AMATEURS, APPRENTICES, SCOUTS and SQUIRES. There are other Roles, like Fledgling Witches and Royal Heirs available too. Once you pick the Role you feel is right for you then use the Character Sheet that corresponds with that Role. That will be your Character Sheet when you play the game. SIDEKICK QUESTS THE RPG IS PLAYED USING TWENTY SIDED DICE REFERRED TO AS D20S.
Each player keeps and rolls their own D20 or shares a D20 between one or more Players in the Troop. Rolls are used to determine success for failure for most things attempted during gameplay. The Player describes the action they wish to take and the GM determines the appropriate Stat to roll for that action and Checks to see if the number rolled is enough to succeed at the task. Every task is assigned a target number determined by the Game Master before the roll. If a player rolls lower than the target number they fail. A Quest is any scene or encounter that the players find themselves in that can result in a reward of some kind. A Quest can involve a fight with monsters, exploring an unknown location, meeting new people or solving problems through the intelligent use of stats, actions and perks. Ideally Sidekick Quests is also a social game that rewards all kinds of tasks. Not every Quests should be completed by resorting to violence. A Starter Quest Pack PDF can be purchased in the Shop too.
